Which licenses are required to Use Power BI?

The Power BI Desktop product can be downloaded and used for free. However, a Power BI Pro license is required to publish reports.

What are the Power BI Report Server system requirements?

Recommended configuration for report server setup is at least 2 servers. One server is for SQL databases and the other is for the Power BI Report Server service and portal. System resources such as processor, memory and disk space are determined according to reporting needs.

Which data sources can I get data for reports?

Power BI can extract data from hundreds of databases and online sources. The main sources you can get data from:

Files: Excel, text, xml, json, directories

Databases: SQL Server, Oracle, IBM DB2, MySQL, Sybase, PostgreSQL, SAP HANA, SAP BW, Amazon Redshift, Access, Google BigQuery, Azure

Online Services: SharePoint, Project, Exchange, Active Directory, Dynamics (CRM, NAV), SalesForce, Visual Studio Team Services, Facebook, Twitter, Google, Github, Mailchimp, ODATA, Web Pages etc…

What competences are the required to use Power BI?

It does not require any special expertise to be able to design a report. However, users who are good at Excel or have previously worked with databases will adapt much faster.

System setup requires a good knowledge of data architectures for advanced use such as data warehousing.

Are Power BI visual objects customizable?

Other than the visual objects (tables and graphs) in the Power BI Desktop product, if different data displays are desired, they can be downloaded from the market page. However, if you haven’t found the exact graphic or table you dreamed of, custom development can also be done.
